What is Absolute volume?
Absolute volume is the total number of shares traded within a selected period. ChartsWatcher supports several intraday windows, including 1, 2, 5 and 10 minutes, as well as daily volume. The filter answers how much stock changed hands, rather than whether that amount was unusual for the symbol or how many separate trades produced it.
An illustrative example
Absolute volume in practice
A 5-minute volume condition above 100,000 shares includes a symbol with 125,000 shares traded in that period and excludes one with 70,000. Changing the option to daily applies the threshold to the daily total, so the same numeric setting describes a very different activity requirement.

A high share count can reflect repeated trading of the same shares. It neither identifies unique investors nor makes equal-volume stocks comparable in traded dollar value.
