Dollar Volume Stock Screener
Screen stocks by dollar volume in ChartsWatcher. Measure traded value over intraday periods or the day and combine it with price and volume filters.
Understand the metric
What is Absolute dollar volume?
Absolute dollar volume totals the monetary value traded during the selected period. It complements share volume by accounting for the price of the shares changing hands. ChartsWatcher offers periods from 1 minute through 2 hours, plus daily. This is useful when two stocks have similar share counts but very different prices and therefore different amounts of traded value.
An illustrative example
Absolute dollar volume in practice
For illustration, 100,000 shares all trading at $10 represent $1 million in dollar volume. The same share count at $50 represents $5 million. A selected-period threshold above $2 million would distinguish them even though an absolute share-volume filter would see equal counts.
Make it part of your workflow
A more deliberate stock screen.
Add dollar volume to a ChartsWatcher toplist when you want a price-aware activity screen. Pair a 5-minute traded-value requirement with percentage change to locate active movers, then inspect the chart and quotes to understand how that activity is distributed through the period.
ChartsWatcher lets you combine this filter with other criteria in a toplist and rank the results by the columns you care about. Keep the shortlist beside charts, stock news, and watchlists in your own layout.

A little more detail.
How do I add Absolute dollar volume in ChartsWatcher?
Open or create a toplist and add Absolute dollar volume to its filter configuration. Choose the available options and the bounds that fit your screen. Combine it with other metrics to narrow the results. Filters can also refine which stocks qualify for an alert.
What should I check when interpreting this filter?
Dollar volume measures turnover value, not order-book depth. A large total can come from a few trades and does not by itself describe the spread.
From an idea to your own scan.
Use Absolute dollar volume with the other conditions that define your setup. Keep matching stocks, charts, and news together, with a configuration you can refine as you go.
