Block Trade Stock Alerts
Track large reported stock trades with ChartsWatcher’s block trade alerts. Learn the share-count trigger, the 20,000-share minimum, and what a print reveals.
Understand the trigger
What is Block Trade?
A block trade alert is based on the size of a single reported trade. ChartsWatcher triggers when that trade contains at least the configured number of shares; the documented default and minimum is 20,000 shares. This is different from adding together the volume of many smaller trades during a candle. The alert identifies a large individual print without attributing it to a particular participant or intention.
An illustrative example
Block Trade in practice
Imagine a reported trade for 25,000 shares when the configured block threshold is 20,000 shares. That single print meets the share-count condition. By contrast, twenty-five separate trades of 1,000 shares do not form one qualifying block merely because their combined volume is also 25,000 shares.
Make it part of your workflow
Catch the event. Keep the context.
Use the block trade alert in ChartsWatcher to bring unusually large individual prints into a symbol-review workflow. Compare the price of the stock, its broader volume activity, and the chart when the event appears. This is particularly useful when you want to separate transaction size from aggregate volume across an interval.
ChartsWatcher brings your chosen alert types and filters into the same alert window. Add the data columns you want to see, then use the connected chart and news tools to explore a matching symbol.

How do I add Block Trade in ChartsWatcher?
Open or create an alert window and choose Block Trade in its configuration. Select the available options that match your setup, then add filters to define which stocks can trigger it. Review matching alerts alongside a chart and the stock’s news.
What should I check before using this alert?
A large reported print does not identify the buyer, seller, or institution behind it. Share count also does not equal dollar value or reveal a directional trading intention.
