Unusual Stock Volume Alerts: Ten-Candle Average
Find volume spikes against the previous ten candles with ChartsWatcher. Choose a candle interval and a current-to-average volume ratio for your alert.
Understand the trigger
What is Volume spike (10)?
Volume Spike (10) compares the current candle’s traded volume with the average volume of the last ten candles on the selected timeframe. You configure the ratio of current volume to that average; a value of two means at least twice the average candle volume. The available intervals are one, two, five, and fifteen minutes. This is a recent candle-volume comparison, not a comparison with an entire typical trading day.
An illustrative example
Volume spike (10) in practice
For illustration, if the last ten five-minute candles averaged 8,000 shares, a ratio setting of two looks for at least 16,000 shares in the current five-minute candle. The ten-candle history defines the baseline, while the chosen interval defines both the current candle and each candle contributing to that average.

Catch the event. Keep the context.
Use ChartsWatcher to identify participation changes relative to a broader recent candle sample. Inspect the symbol’s chart and any coincident news or price alert to see what accompanied the additional activity. Comparing this alert with the two-candle variant helps you distinguish a rise above a ten-candle background from a change against only the immediately recent candles.
ChartsWatcher brings your chosen alert types and filters into the same alert window. Add the data columns you want to see, then use the connected chart and news tools to explore a matching symbol.

How do I add Volume spike (10) in ChartsWatcher?
Open or create an alert window and choose Volume spike (10) in its configuration. Select the available options that match your setup, then add filters to define which stocks can trigger it. Review matching alerts alongside a chart and the stock’s news.
What should I check before using this alert?
The baseline can include earlier high-volume candles that raise the average. A volume spike also measures trading activity, not whether buyers or sellers will control the subsequent move.
