Relative Volume Stock Screener
Find unusual stock volume with ChartsWatcher. Compare current candle volume with the previous 15 candles and screen activity across supported timeframes.
Understand the metric
What is Relative volume (%)?
Relative volume compares the current candle’s share volume with average volume across the last 15 candles of the selected timeframe. ChartsWatcher expresses the result as current candle volume divided by average candle volume, multiplied by 100. Options include several intraday timeframes and daily. This is a recent-candle comparison, distinct from expected session volume or cumulative same-time volume.
An illustrative example
Relative volume (%) in practice
If the last fifteen 5-minute candles averaged 20,000 shares and the current candle has 60,000, relative volume is 300%. That means three times the reference candle volume. It does not mean the whole session has traded three times its usual cumulative share count.
Make it part of your workflow
A more deliberate stock screen.
Use relative volume in a ChartsWatcher stock scanner to surface activity that differs from a symbol’s recent candles. Add an absolute-volume floor to keep tiny baselines from dominating the list, then use price change and the linked chart to examine what accompanied that activity.
ChartsWatcher lets you combine this filter with other criteria in a toplist and rank the results by the columns you care about. Keep the shortlist beside charts, stock news, and watchlists in your own layout.

A little more detail.
How do I add Relative volume (%) in ChartsWatcher?
Open or create a toplist and add Relative volume (%) to its filter configuration. Choose the available options and the bounds that fit your screen. Combine it with other metrics to narrow the results. Filters can also refine which stocks qualify for an alert.
What should I check when interpreting this filter?
The current candle can still be developing, and a quiet recent baseline can create a large ratio. This measure is not the same as cumulative same-time volume.
From an idea to your own scan.
Use Relative volume (%) with the other conditions that define your setup. Keep matching stocks, charts, and news together, with a configuration you can refine as you go.
