VWAP Reclaim vs VWAP Rejection vs VWAP Cross

A VWAP cross is a change of sides. A reclaim usually describes a return above VWAP after trading below it. A rejection describes an unsuccessful attempt to move through the line. The last two are trading shorthand, so define your rule before turning either into an alert.

What each description means

TermTypical interpretationWhat still needs defining
Cross abovePrice moves from below VWAP to above itIntrabar touch or candle close?
ReclaimPrice returns above VWAP after a period belowHow long below, and must it remain above?
Rejection from belowPrice approaches VWAP, then moves away beneath itHow close, which timeframe, and what confirms the response?

A reclaim can contain a cross, but a cross alone does not prove a sustained reclaim. A move away from VWAP is not automatically evidence that the level will continue to hold.

A simple example

Imagine price trades below VWAP, briefly moves above it, then closes back below. A crossing rule might record the brief move. A rule requiring a completed candle above VWAP would not yet qualify it as a reclaim.

If price later approaches VWAP from below and turns down, a trader might describe a rejection. That label depends on the observation window and the rule used. VWAP itself can also move during the sequence.

Match the description to a documented alert

ChartsWatcher offers Crossing Above and Crossing Below, each with VWAP as an option. These are the starting points for researching a change of sides.

VWAP Acts as Resistance describes a response when approaching from below; VWAP Acts as Support concerns an approach from above. Read their documented settings rather than assuming they implement your personal reclaim or rejection rule.

Through VWAP is different again: its reference includes a larger-candle condition. It should not be treated as a synonym for every ordinary cross.

Keep the rule reproducible

Record the direction, candle timeframe, whether a close is required, and what would invalidate your interpretation. Use distance from VWAP to describe proximity, not as proof of a support or resistance response.

Open the chart around the event and inspect the sequence. These alerts identify documented conditions; they do not validate a trading strategy or guarantee the next move.

Put the settings into a workflow.

Follow the documented configuration steps, then review matching events in chart context. These are setup guides, not performance-tested trading strategies.

Continue your research.
