Understand stocks gaining from the close

A gain from the previous close compares the current stock price with the preceding session’s closing price. For example, a hypothetical stock that closed at $20 and now trades at $21 is up $1, or 5%, from the close. If it opened at $22, it is nevertheless down about 4.55% from the open. These are different measurements, not conflicting signals. The live table requires a data connection; an empty table does not by itself mean that no stocks are gaining.

Build on this scan in ChartsWatcher

Use this toplist as a starting point for chart and news research. In your ChartsWatcher workspace, combine change from close with price and volume filters to define the stocks you want to follow. Review the selected measurement: a dollar change and a percentage change describe different aspects of a move.
