Stock Gainers and Losers Screener: Change from Close
Find stocks above or below the previous close with ChartsWatcher. Filter dollar or percentage change and combine daily movers with volume and news.
Understand the metric
What is Change from close?
Change from close compares the current stock price with the previous session’s closing price. ChartsWatcher provides dollar and percentage forms, giving you a familiar reference for gainers and losers. Unlike a short rolling-window change, the reference remains that prior close, so the reading includes movement that occurred before the current regular session opened.
An illustrative example
Change from close in practice
With a previous close of $25 and a current price of $27, the change is $2, or 8%. If the stock opened at $28, it can still show a positive change from close while being down from today’s open. Both observations can be true.
Make it part of your workflow
A more deliberate stock screen.
Build a ChartsWatcher daily-movers toplist using change from close, then add absolute or same-time relative volume. Display change from open alongside it to separate stocks holding an overnight gain from those advancing during the current session, and use news to investigate possible context.
ChartsWatcher lets you combine this filter with other criteria in a toplist and rank the results by the columns you care about. Keep the shortlist beside charts, stock news, and watchlists in your own layout.

A little more detail.
How do I add Change from close in ChartsWatcher?
Open or create a toplist and add Change from close to its filter configuration. Choose the available options and the bounds that fit your screen. Combine it with other metrics to narrow the results. Filters can also refine which stocks qualify for an alert.
What should I check when interpreting this filter?
A positive reading does not mean the stock has risen since the opening bell. Overnight gaps can dominate this measure even when intraday direction is different.
From an idea to your own scan.
Use Change from close with the other conditions that define your setup. Keep matching stocks, charts, and news together, with a configuration you can refine as you go.
