Understand the metric

What is RSI (14)?

The Relative Strength Index compares recent upward and downward price changes to describe momentum on a bounded scale. ChartsWatcher’s RSI filter uses 14 periods and supports 1-minute, 2-minute, 5-minute, 15-minute and daily candles. Selecting the timeframe changes which price history contributes to the reading; a short intraday RSI and a daily RSI can describe different conditions.

An illustrative example

RSI (14) in practice

A hypothetical 5-minute RSI screen above 70 includes a reading of 74 and excludes 62. Switching to daily RSI applies the same numerical condition to daily candles. It does not imply that the stock’s daily reading is also 74 or that a reversal must follow.

Make it part of your workflow

A more deliberate stock screen.

Use RSI in ChartsWatcher to group stocks by a defined momentum condition, then compare percentage change, moving-average distance and volume. Opening the corresponding chart timeframe helps you see whether the reading accompanies a sustained trend, a short burst or a recent change in pace.

ChartsWatcher lets you combine this filter with other criteria in a toplist and rank the results by the columns you care about. Keep the shortlist beside charts, stock news, and watchlists in your own layout.

A little more detail.

How do I add RSI (14) in ChartsWatcher?

Open or create a toplist and add RSI (14) to its filter configuration. Choose the available options and the bounds that fit your screen. Combine it with other metrics to narrow the results. Filters can also refine which stocks qualify for an alert.

What should I check when interpreting this filter?

High or low RSI can persist during a trend. An extreme reading alone does not establish a reversal, and readings from different timeframes need separate interpretation.
