Premarket and After-Hours Near High or Low Alerts

Watch stocks approach daily highs and lows across extended hours. ChartsWatcher measures proximity using current ATR(20), without requiring a breakout.

Understand the trigger

What is Near high/low of the day (pre/post-market)?

This version monitors price approaching a daily high or low with premarket and postmarket coverage included. The alert triggers when the distance to the selected extreme is less than the current 20-period ATR. Its calculations span premarket, regular market, and postmarket. The wider session coverage distinguishes it from the regular-session-only near-high/low alert; both describe proximity rather than a completed break.

An illustrative example

Near high/low of the day (pre/post-market) in practice

Suppose a hypothetical stock approaches its daily high during premarket. If the remaining distance is $0.12 and the current ATR used by the alert is $0.20, the distance is inside the documented condition. The event concerns approaching the level, even if price never subsequently trades above that high.

Make it part of your workflow

Catch the event. Keep the context.

Use ChartsWatcher to review developing approaches during your before-open or after-close market checks. Pair the alert with the relevant chart and session volume, then distinguish an approach from any later new-high or new-low event. This provides a consistent reference-based workflow across the extended and regular portions of the trading day.

ChartsWatcher brings your chosen alert types and filters into the same alert window. Add the data columns you want to see, then use the connected chart and news tools to explore a matching symbol.

How do I add Near high/low of the day (pre/post-market) in ChartsWatcher?

Open or create an alert window and choose Near high/low of the day (pre/post-market) in its configuration. Select the available options that match your setup, then add filters to define which stocks can trigger it. Review matching alerts alongside a chart and the stock’s news.

What should I check before using this alert?

ATR-based nearness can change as volatility changes. Extended-hours spreads and participation may also differ substantially, so a nearby daily extreme is not evidence of an imminent break.
