Understand the metric

What is Premarket Volume?

Premarket volume counts the shares traded in the premarket session. It isolates early-session participation instead of combining it with regular-session activity or treating a price move alone as evidence of attention. ChartsWatcher lets you combine this volume measure with premarket price-change and news-recency filters to organize a focused preparation view before the opening bell.

An illustrative example

Premarket Volume in practice

A minimum of 100,000 premarket shares would include a stock with 250,000 and exclude one with 20,000. If both stocks show a 10% premarket gain, the volume condition adds a separate participation distinction without changing the size of their reported price moves.

Make it part of your workflow

A more deliberate stock screen.

Create a ChartsWatcher premarket movers list using share volume and change from the previous close. Add float or recent news to supply more context, then inspect the chart as the open approaches to see whether participation is broadly developing or concentrated in a short burst.

ChartsWatcher lets you combine this filter with other criteria in a toplist and rank the results by the columns you care about. Keep the shortlist beside charts, stock news, and watchlists in your own layout.

A little more detail.

How do I add Premarket Volume in ChartsWatcher?

Open or create a toplist and add Premarket Volume to its filter configuration. Choose the available options and the bounds that fit your screen. Combine it with other metrics to narrow the results. Filters can also refine which stocks qualify for an alert.

What should I check when interpreting this filter?

Premarket share volume does not describe regular-session liquidity or the bid-ask spread. Equal share totals also represent different traded values at different stock prices.
