Inside Bar Stock Scanner Alerts
Find inside bars with ChartsWatcher: candles whose high-to-low range fits within the previous candle. Review range contraction across supported timeframes.
Understand the trigger
What is Inside Bar?
An inside bar has a smaller high-to-low range contained within the previous candle’s range. ChartsWatcher reports this relationship on the timeframe you select. The formation describes where the entire candle fits, so it is different from comparing only two candle bodies. Supported options include several intraday intervals, four hours, and one day, with calculations during both regular and extended-hours sessions.
An illustrative example
Inside Bar in practice
Consider a hypothetical candle ranging from $15.00 to $15.80, followed by one ranging from $15.20 to $15.55. The second candle is smaller and contained by the first, illustrating an inside bar. It can close above or below its own open while still meeting that range relationship.
Make it part of your workflow
Catch the event. Keep the context.
Use ChartsWatcher’s inside-bar alert to find stocks whose latest candle range has contracted. Review the formation on the matching chart interval and compare it with the larger daily range. You can separately watch recent-high and recent-low breaks to distinguish a contained range from a later expansion beyond nearby chart structure.
ChartsWatcher brings your chosen alert types and filters into the same alert window. Add the data columns you want to see, then use the connected chart and news tools to explore a matching symbol.

A little more detail.
How do I add Inside Bar in ChartsWatcher?
Open or create an alert window and choose Inside Bar in its configuration. Select the available options that match your setup, then add filters to define which stocks can trigger it. Review matching alerts alongside a chart and the stock’s news.
What should I check before using this alert?
An inside bar indicates range containment, not a direction for the next move. A small intraday inside bar may also be insignificant within a much larger session range.
From an idea to your own scan.
Use Inside Bar with the other conditions that define your setup. Keep matching stocks, charts, and news together, with a configuration you can refine as you go.
