Understand the metric

What is Change ($)?

Dollar change measures the price difference across the selected intraday period. ChartsWatcher offers 1, 2, 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. The dollar unit keeps attention on the size of the price increment rather than its percentage of the starting price. Positive and negative changes distinguish upward movement from downward movement over that window.

An illustrative example

Change ($) in practice

A stock moving from $40.00 to $40.75 over 5 minutes has gained $0.75. Another moving from $8.00 to $8.75 has the same dollar change despite a larger percentage move. A 5-minute condition above $0.50 would include both in this illustration.

Make it part of your workflow

A more deliberate stock screen.

Use dollar change in ChartsWatcher when your chart review starts with a specific price increment. Combine it with a price band and 5-minute absolute volume, then use a linked chart to check whether the move developed steadily or resulted from one abrupt jump.

ChartsWatcher lets you combine this filter with other criteria in a toplist and rank the results by the columns you care about. Keep the shortlist beside charts, stock news, and watchlists in your own layout.

A little more detail.

How do I add Change ($) in ChartsWatcher?

Open or create a toplist and add Change ($) to its filter configuration. Choose the available options and the bounds that fit your screen. Combine it with other metrics to narrow the results. Filters can also refine which stocks qualify for an alert.

What should I check when interpreting this filter?

Equal dollar changes can represent very different percentage moves. The window’s net change also hides reversals and fluctuations that occurred between its endpoints.
