Understand the trigger

What is Halt?

The Halt alert reports when an exchange halts trading in a stock. Its available options distinguish a halt from a resumption, so you can monitor the interruption and the subsequent return to trading. The documentation lists calculations during premarket, regular market, and postmarket. This is an exchange-status event, different from a stock merely showing low volume or going a short time without a new trade.

An illustrative example

Halt in practice

Suppose a symbol in your workspace stops trading after an exchange halt. A halt event brings that status change to attention. When trading subsequently resumes, the resume option covers that separate event. Neither notification, by itself, explains the reason for the interruption or the price at which subsequent trading will occur.

Make it part of your workflow

Catch the event. Keep the context.

Include halt and resume events in ChartsWatcher when you want a clearer explanation for a suddenly inactive symbol. Open its news and chart to review available context, and distinguish the status event from ordinary changes in trading activity. Monitoring both options keeps the interruption and return visible within the same research workflow.

ChartsWatcher brings your chosen alert types and filters into the same alert window. Add the data columns you want to see, then use the connected chart and news tools to explore a matching symbol.

A little more detail.

How do I add Halt in ChartsWatcher?

Open or create an alert window and choose Halt in its configuration. Select the available options that match your setup, then add filters to define which stocks can trigger it. Review matching alerts alongside a chart and the stock’s news.

What should I check before using this alert?

A halt alert does not specify the cause or predict the resumption time and price. A resumption event also does not imply that trading conditions have normalized.
